Eastern Conference Eye Candy: Mike Green (Washington Capitals)

I know, I KNOW - this guy is a Washington Capital, but it came as a request and we aim to please here (and honestly, to each her own - whatever flips your skirt up is what I always say!)!!! What I've found after almost a year of writing on this blog is that "you're not alone," so I'm certain that there's more than just one reader who has a thing for Mr. Green!!

HOCKEY FACTOR
  • began his professional career in 2000 playing for the WHL's Saskatoon Blades
  • first round choice for Washington in the 2004 NHL Draft (29th overall)
  • debuted with the Capitals on his 20th birthday (10/12/2005), and spent part of the season playing for their AHL affiliate, Hershey Bears; also signed a 3-year, entry-level contract with them in the same year
  • played in the 2007 NHL YoungStars game (had three assists)
  • won silver medal with Team Canada in the 2008 World Championships (also named to the tournament All-Star team)
  • recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick on 04/15/2008 with a goal, assist, and fight
  • set an NHL record as a defenseman this past season on Valentine's Day (02/14/2009) by scoring in his eighth consecutive game
  • the first NHL defenseman to score 30 goals in a season since Washington's Kevin Hatcher in the 1992-93 season (04/2009)
  • is currently a finalist for the Norris Trophy
HOTNESS FACTOR:
Mike was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His full name is Michael David Green and nicknamed "Game Over" which he earned after it became a regular thing for him to score game-winning goals in the last minutes of the third period or overtime (was given to him by Washington's play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati).

He enjoys golf and is learning how to play the guitar and drums; his favorite sport is Ultimate Fighting so it would go without saying that his favorite athlete is Chuck Lidell who is an Ultimate Fighter. He collects skateboards and started earning money as a grocery store bagger.

He's involved in various charities and also created his own charity called "Green's Gang" purchasing 7 season tickets that he donates to the non-profit organization "Most Valuable Kids" for underpriveleged kids and activce military. He also raises money for Children's National Medical Center as part of Parade magazine's "America's Giving Challenge."
