HAPPY 23rd BIRTHDAY, Geno!!!!

Details for Kunitz's Day with the Cup

Chris Kunitz with have the Stanley Cup in his hometown of Regina. Word came yesterday, but the official announcement was made later in the day. It will be on display at City Hall from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Kunitz will be available at the courtyard in front of city hall for autographs with a minimum donation of $5 to receive an autographed photo of Kunitz. All proceeds will benefit the Allan Blair Cancer Centre (fans are encouraged to bring their own memorabilia for Kunitz to sign since there are only a limited number of signed photos).

"Growing up playing hockey in Regina was a big part of my life, so to be able to share this with my hometown is an honour for me," Kunitz said in a prepared statement. "Being able to give back to the community by benefitting the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency makes the victory that much sweeter."

Kunitz to Take Cup Home to Regina

Just found out that Chris Kunitz will have his day with the Stanley Cup on Monday, August 10th and is taking it to his hometown of Regina.

I'll post more details as soon as I learn more!!

A few weeks ago, a signed limited-edition Sidney Crosby print was stolen from a Tim Horton's in Strathmore. The story was all over the internet and, most likely, how Sidney Crosby learned of it. Being the classy guy he is, he felt the need to replace it (this one is a picture of him hoisting the Stanley Cup!).
"Last Friday, I got a package in the mail that was addressed to the store manager," said Rohl. "On the packing slip it says, 'Gift from Sidney Crosby,' so I was dumbfounded."

"I didn't expect this because I didn't mention it to anybody."
That, ladies, screams "class" and our dear Captain oozes it!!!

*Already listed this quality as #2 - "Crosby is a Class-Act," but it deserves repeating since he continues to be such a classy guy!!

Cabbie's "Journey to the Cup" - Special [Final 2009] Edition

FINALLY -- Cabbie's special edition of "Journey to the Cup" featuring the Penguins post-game celebration (originally aired in Canada on June 20th). As always, it's good stuff!!

Gill to Bring Stanley Cup to Alma Mater

I received a tip from reader, Shoshana K., letting me know that Hal Gill will have the Cup on Thursday, August 13th and will be bringing it to his hometown in Bolton, Massachusetts. One of the places he plans to take it to is his alma mater, Nashoba Regional High School, where he was a 1993 graduate and will host "Coffee with the Cup" that morning (it appears to coincide with the school's "Bolton Fair").

Fans will have the opportunity toGill and have their picture taken with Lord Stanley for $10 - proceeds going to the Community Competition Complex project at the high school.

THANKS for the "heads-up" Shoshana - it's much appreciated!!

Also - be sure to check back for times (and any other events scheduled for this day) -- I'll post them as soon as I learn of them!!

CONFIRMED - Crosby Celebrates with Lord Stanley on His Birthday

There have been several reports speculating that Sid would be celebrating his 22nd birthday with the Cup; however, it has now been confirmed and further information has been released by both the Chronicle Herald and that Sid will have and celebrate with the Cup on Friday, August 7th.

"People from home have been so supportive of me since I was a youngster playing at Cole Harbour Place. I want as many people as possible to be part of this day," he said in a release Tuesday.
A parade and "question-and-answer" session where fans can get their pictures taken with Sid and the Cup along with various other events are planned throughout the day. The celebration begins with the parade at 2:30 PM and will end with a concert later in the evening.

What a fitting way for Sid to celebrate both his birthday AND winning the Stanley Cup!!

More details will be forthcoming in the days to follow.

Crosby Picture of the Week

I'm not sure where or when this picture was taken (it looks as though it would be on vacation, but who knows and who cares), I really don't -- there's just something about Sid in jeans and a t-shirt with a smile on his face (and there's that infamous backside of his!) -- YOWZA!!!!!! Is it wrong that I want to squeeze that tushy??!!! I'm married, not dead (or blind!)!!!!!! : P

Monday Macho

OK -- I couldn't resist posting this. It's the Penguins prospects in the weight room (focus is mainly on talking to Mike Kadar, the strength and conditioning coach), but this is like a whole lotta testosterone (and YES - I'm really missing hockey - can you tell?!!)!

But before we get to the video, I found a really interesting group on Facebook this weekend and thought I'd share it with all of you:

According To Playboy, Hockey Players Make the Best Lovers

Couldn't we all have guessed this? I mean, there has to be a logical reason why we're all so attracted to them. The group's description:
In an article published in Playboy, it was noted that hockey players make the best lovers. The article backed this statement by noting that hockey players have a strong and flexible core, leading to superior abdominal thrusts.
Enough of that -- here's the video, so enjoy ladies!!

In Case You Missed These

Here are some pictures of a few of the Penguins players on their day with the Cup.

The one directly below (at center) is Rob Scuderi hoisting the Cup at Lido Beach in Hempstead, NY.

To the left is Brooks Orpik with his girlfriend, Erin, at the beach in Cohasset, MA.

The picture to the right is of Johnstown native and Penguins equipment manager, Dana Heinze, with his wife Kathy at the top of Johnstown's Inclined Plane.

2009-2010 Penguins Schedule Wallpaper & Downloads

I just came across this yesterday. I'm into having the schedule as my desktop wallpaper at work, so I have something to look forward to when I'm miserably bored there!! So I thought I'd share this with you too.

The page includes printable scheduled (both in list format as well as color and B&W) and also downloadable schedules for various devices and search engines.

(and get ready for the upcoming season)!!

Some Contradiction as to the Date for Crosby

[UPDATE] -- ALSO, AS A NOTE, the most current list is on my other blog, TSCSF, as I haven't had the time to update the list here yet (there are some new ones like Cooke and Ziggy this weekend)!!!

It looks as though alot of reports are surfacing that Sid will have the Cup on his birthday which is appropriate (so I apologize for my posting the information too early and getting the date incorrect).

Metro News Halifax is reporting that sources have told them that Crosby is planning to have the Cup on his 22nd birthday on August 7th, but an official announcement is forthcoming.
“Right now, the date is pretty much secured but it’s not being released,” said Mason, a family friend and a former coach of Crosby’s. “It will be announced possibly by the end of this week or the beginning of next week at the latest.”
Currently, I have Crosby's day with the Cup listed as August 19th and I wouldn't have posted it unless I came across that date on the internet (whether the date was actually stated in an article or I put facts from a number of articles together to come to a conclusion that this was the date).

But, I had a reader email me that the date is being reported on YAHOO! Sports as his birthday, August 7th.

I just wanted to make note of this on the blog so you don't think that I'm pulling dates out of thin air -- it appears to be some type of discrepency (and it could be a mistake on my part); however, YAHOO! does not give any sources or reasons as to why they report this is the date (and it does say "is expected to" which would imply this is not definite).

Is it August 7th or August 19th?? I guess we'll have to wait and see unless I get confirmation prior to these dates!!

He's sexy whether he's wearing a tux or "bummy" street clothes
(or is half-dressed!)!

It's back to "simple and superficial" this week talking about one of the MANY facets of Sid's good looks!! And I'll let the pictures do the explaining!! : P

Happy Birthday to Me

In light of the fact that this weekend I turn 1 year older (betcha thought you were going to get my age out of me, sorry no such luck), Stephanie has graciously offered to fill the space that's usually taken up by a hot NHL player from the Western Conference with a couple little splashes of eye candy just for me. (of which, as I write this, I have no idea for certain who it is which is part of the fun).

So I'm sorry for the interuption, but please drool along with me.

We'll be back to drooling on the Western Confrence Hotties, next week as soon as I recover from the "Sour Cream Cake Overload."

Kena's birthday is Friday, July 24th, so I'd like to take this time to wish her a happy birthday and let her know how much I appreciate how much she's done to help me make this blog such a success and, of course, for being such a WONDERFUL FRIEND!!

Crosby Picture of the Week

I really haven't seen this picture before, so I'm wondering how many of you have. It looks like it was around the time he started playing in the NHL because he still has (had) that baby-face, teenager look to him around that time and even though he's still young these days, you can really tell how he's grown into the fine young man we all know he is!!! : )

But look at that upper body (those shoulders and arms) - OH MY - what a nice upper body it is!!!

Brooks Orpik at BC with the Stanley Cup (A Fan's Account)

I was lucky enough to have a reader get a first-hand account of Orpik's visit to Boston College with the Cup yesterday and e-mail me afterwards.
It was awesome! I got there early so I was in good position when they finally let people in (about 15 min late). The organizers did next to nothing. There were no signs or anything of where to go (and it was a BIG building) and there was no clear line so it became a bit of a "rush the door" when they started, but no fights broke out so it went ok. Anyway, Brooks was a total sweetheart. He was taking photos with everyone and signing stuff too. He has a really nice smile and wasn't intimidating at all close up. Which is not to say I'd ever want to face him on the ice, but off the ice he seems just genuinely nice. I even got to shake his hand - it's like a big soff bear paw. :)

I didn't get a chance to spend much time up close and personal with the Cup, but to even get to touch it seemed so special. I felt like a loser afterwards thought because all of the things I thought of saying went out the window when I had the moment. I was totally tongue tied ... It took over an hour to get there and another hour to get home, but it was totally worth it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. :)

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Cathy Z. for sharing her experience and photos!!!

2009 - 2010 Schedules Out LATER TODAY!!!!!

Hockey season is almost here!!!!!!! Seriously, I am missing me some hockey (and my Pens!)!!!!!

AHA!!! They're on the way --
2009-10 schedule to be released later today (from!!!

NHL fans should get their calendars ready, because they'll have some important dates to start marking down.
At approximately 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, the League will unveil the entire 2009-10 regular-season schedule.
The announcement coincides with the major event planned for 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Boston's Fenway Park. That event can be watched live on the NHL Network, as well as
According to the "Ice Man" Atlanta Thrashers blog, the NHL schedules (the Thrasher's anyway) have been released and he posted some "highlights" of their schedule which includes 2 dates with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's reporting that the Penguins will be traveling to Atlanta on Saturday, November 21st as well as closing out the Thrasher's season at the Mellon Arena on Saturday, April 10th.

Saturday Novemeber 21: The Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins bring their act to Thrasherville…we also close the season at home against the Penguins on April 10.
When does the 2009 - 2010 NHL schedules come out and am I making a big deal out of this for nothing??? I'm assuming it's soon or otherwise all these game dates wouldn't be floating around the internet.

It's A Girl!

Miroslav Satan and his wife, Ingrid, are the proud parents of a new baby girl named Victoria who was born on Sunday, July 12th. This is the second child for them; their first born is son, Miroslav Jr.

Tenk's Championship Tattoos

I found this on Twitter. Tattoos appear to be popular with the Penguins players as this is the second one we've seen paying tribute to their recent Stanley Cup victory.

As you can see from the other tattoo, this is the art displayed on Ruslan Fedotenko's back - one for his championship with the TB Lightning in 2004 and another for his championship with the Penguins.

Crosby Picture of the Week

I'm thinking since this is summer and the off-season that I won't be finding any "current" pictures of our Mr. Crosby, so I'll have to make do with whatever I find. I've taken the arduous task upon myself to browse through all the pictures I can find to see if I may have missed some interesting ones (YEAH, RIGHT - I've seen them ALL!) - see what I go through to make this the best blog for you ladies?!! : P

But low and behold, I found one that I hadn't noticed before nor have I seen around alot and I'm featuring it this week.

And it's only appropriate that we include dad in on this (since mom was included last week)!! This picture is just darling only because it feels so "in the moment" and Troy genuinely seems harmless (he normally scares the living shit out of me with his icey cold stares) -- but this -- THIS really says volumes about the man and how proud he is of his son!!!

This picture makes Troy Crosby look like he knits slipper socks in his spare time and sings "Kumbiya" with the local school children who stop by to sell him some fundraiser candy bars (which he happily buys the whole box of!)!! And for one moment, it made me forget about all the iciness.

But after that moment, I find I'm still scared of him only because he has a look that makes him appear so unapproachable and I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets that impression and I'm sure I'm totally wrong and he's probably the nicest man on the face of this earth (and maybe he does knit slipper socks in his spare time!)!!

Get to Know New Pens HOTTIE, Jay McKee

HEL-LO there, Mr. McKee!!

You will definitely fit in well with the Pittsburgh Penguins - quite the attractive man, you are!

And yes, that is a wedding ring on his finger. He was married in July 1999. His wife, Nicole, was once a Buffalo Jill's cheerleader (is it me, or does she look like that girl who played on Melrose Place and another sitcom, the name of which escapes my mind right now!). They honeymooned in Hawaii then made a stop in Las Vegas on the way back to catch a David Copperfield show (Jay is really into magic!).

The couple have two daughters, Jayden and Savannah who were born in October 2004, and November 2006.

In addition to magic, another one of McKee's hobbies is tennis and formed a mixed doubles team with Nicole.
"At first, we were kind of fighting like husband and wife," Nicole McKee said, recalling their first time on the court last year. "He'd take my ball and make an error, and I was like, 'Why did you do that?' and vice versa. We had a lot of disagreements."

Her husband also remembers that.

"Needless to say, there wasn't much talking in the car on the way home," he said.
HOW REFRESHING - just like every other married couple on the face of the planet!! They did eventually become a better team and won the US Tennis Association section in June 2005 which enabled them to advance to the North Atlantic Regional Championships at Princeton University in August of that year.

And McKee with glasses -- YUMMY!!!

Hockey 101 with HftL (Stanley Cup Edition)

This week, HftL takes a look at the engraving on the Stanley Cup.

A lot of the interesting facts we'll take a look at this summer for the "Stanley Cup Edition" of Hockey 101 with HftL will be the engraving itself -- from facts to the errors and corrections.

There is an official engraver of the Stanley Cup and there have been only four of them since it's creation. Currently, the official engraver is Louise St. Jacques who has maintained the name of the engraving business she took over, Boffey's Silversmiths of Montreal (the original owner, Doug Boffey, was the third official engraver). The first two engravers were two generations of the Peterson family (who were assisted by Fred Light, Sr.).
"I started working at Boffey Promotions part-time. I was getting trained while I was going to university," explains the delightful engraver [Louise St. Jacques], who laughs and continues, "I got so good, they had to hire me!"
Every September, St. Jacques takes the Stanley Cup to her studio at Boffey Promotions to begin engraving the names of that year's Champions. It is disassembled from the top down and the "band being engraved is clamped onto a homemade circular jig that creates a steel background for stamping. Special hammers with different head-weights are used to strike against a letter-punch to sink each letter into the silver."

The first team with their names engraved on the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Wanderers (1906-1907). They had a total of 20 names engraved inside the bowl of the Cup.

First-Hand Account of Letang Signing at DVD Premiere

Here at HftL, we're lucky enough to have generous readers who want to share their Penguins stories and experiences.

Last week, HftL reader Lexie H. attended the DVD Premiere signing with Kris Letang and even though she and her friend arrived too late to actually get an autograph, she was able to get a few good pictures!!

... there was a three and a half waiting time for a two hour signing! So Lizzy and i just got some Pictures and Left!

THANKS Lexie!!

REASON #29 & 30
[Like Most Men] He's Still a Kid at Heart
NEVER forgets where he came from!

When Sid was younger, he'd play street hockey with his buddies for a chance to win their own home-made version of the Stanley Cup. And after winning the real thing, he never forgot the dreams he had when he was young nor the buddies he shared those dreams with:

"I do have this idea of playing street hockey with my friends — winning team gets the Stanley Cup. We always used to pretend the Cup was on the line in our street hockey games, so now it really can be."

Sid could quite possibly make it another dream fulfilled!

Western Conference (now with the Eastern Conference) Hottie: Chris Conner (Pittsburgh Penguins formerly Dallas Stars)

Ok, since I'm a glutton for punishment and I keep tabs on 2 different teams (hockey is like potato chips, you can't have just one) I actually kind of like it, when they just swap players. The most recent TX car tag your going to see in the Pens parking lot belongs to Right Wing Chris Conner. Formerly of the Dallas Stars.

IMPORTANT HOCKEY STUFF: As some of you know, or may not know, the [poor babies] Stars, were riddled with injuries to a number of key players. The least of which, (stop laughing, Stephanie) is their [fearless leader, and all around STUD!] "C" Brenden Morrow. (now I KNOW your laughing, Stephanie) Which caused a shortage of RWs. So they called up, Chris Conner, from the AHL last fall. He's pretty low key, but really gets and digs after the puck. He's fast, and you'll see him chasing the puck anywhere. (He's not unlike Tyler Kennedy. Same type of game.) 7 goals, and 14 assists in 71 NHL games for the Stars. He's only played in 1 playoff game. However I think pressure like the playoffs, is an undiscovered strength he has as a player [this is my personal opinion, take it for what you will]. His main disadvantage is his lack of size. He's "generously" listed at 5'8" and 180. (I'm pretty sure there was a brick involved in both the measuring and the weighing.) This brings me to a funny story I heard on the radio (no, Stephanie, it wasn't Morrow) from Steve Ott (who's ever the prankster) about how his team mates would keep putting a stool, in front of his locker, and telling him it was there so he could reach his gear. They even did this on the road. In college, he was on the WCHA all star team. Playing for the Michigan Tech Huskies. He ended his Huskies career as the school’s all-time leader in shorthanded goals (15) and ranked 19th among goal-scorers (69). [More on his career with the Huskies, Here] Never drafted, he began his pro career on an amateur try-out basis with Iowa in the AHL. After a strong showing which included a two-point effort in seven playoff games, he earned a two-year contract with Dallas. (Conner was signed as a free agent out of collage by the Stars, on 07/13/06.) He was an AHL rookie of the year, his first season out of collage for the IA Stars. While playing for the Stars, his line mates were, James Neal [previously on HftL], and Mike Modano [previously on HftL]. A line, that while together, did have some success even during that doomed season. He wore Max Talbot's # 25, in Dallas, so I'm not sure what we'll see him in for the Pens.

REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF: Um, EYELASHES!!! Thick, black, long beautiful eyelashes. Of course there's other things to admire. Well, I'm still having trouble getting past the eyelashes. But you ladies feel free to drool on any thing you like. There's plenty of physical attributes to admire. The mesmerizing blue eyes. Wavy brilliant black hair. [which just gets more awesome, when he spikes it] The cute rosy cheeks. The way he pouts, when he's out on the ice [just watch for it, trust me] The smile (although that was a little rough, when he was short a few teeth there for a while.) He's just all around gorgeous, and busts a grin, at every opportunity. He loves playing the game, and it shows in his infectious enthusiasm. Just try to look at him smiling, and not smile yourself, you can't do it.

He has a wife, Lindsey, and his first child was born this past February (2009) There were some complications with the birth [I believe a bit premature, but don't quote me]. But all was well, in a few days. So congratulations to the Conner's. MUCH better looking on TV. Trust me. Here's a little teaser,

(yes, I know it's short on quality, but we're dealing with the Stars tec people here, and their not known for over doing much of anything web related.) It's the only interview I could find. I'm sure at some point, he'll be interviewed by PIT people, and we'll be able to feast our eyes, all we want. But for now, this will have to do.

Oh, and we already know he looks good in black.

Videos of TK and Tangers on Pittsburgh Today Live!!

Here's video of today's interview of Kris Letang and Tyler Kennedy on Pittsburgh Today Live. There are two extra videos of both of them giving the weather forecast - FUN (you actually get to see a side of Tangers you don't usually see - he appears to be more outgoing than usual!)!!!!!!!

"Our fans are loud and they get excited which gets us excited!" - Tyler Kennedy

I don't know about you guys, but I NEVER GET TIRED of watching this stuff and the players talk about the win (and the parade, and the fans, and EVERYTHING!)!!!

Crosby Picture of the Week (TOO ADORABLE!)

This week's picture has nothing to do with current happenings in Sid's life, but it takes us back to a moment frozen in time as a young Sidney heads off to school with his mother, Trina, helping him out with his Toronto Blue Jays backpack.

These are the photos we don't often get see - of young Sidney which is why they're such a great find and why I wanted to share it with you ladies!!

I was lucky enough to stumble across it on "[A Sidney Crosby Fansite] Sidney Crosby Hockey!"

What a SWEETIE (and such a loving mom!)!!

Eastern Conference Eye Candy: Brooks Laich (Washington Capitals)

If this Brooks Laich's hockey career ended tomorrow, I'm certain he could make a pretty good living as a super model. Look at him - he has a great look with that chiseled face (strong jawline and cheekbones).

I took notice of him after watching one of the Cabbie's "Journey to the Cup" videos and was smitten ever since! CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THAT VIDEO (AND HERE)!!

  • began his career in the WHL (Western Hockey League) for the Moose Jaw Warriors and Seattle Thunderbirds
  • drafted in the 6th round of the 2001 NHL Entry-Level draft by Ottawa (193rd overall)
  • WHL Western Conference MVP (2002-2003)
  • won a silver medal with Team Canada in the 2003 World Junior Championships
  • signed an extension with the Capitals in July 2008 (3-year / $6.1 million)
  • has been mentioned as a future captain of the team
  • his philosophy: "If you want money, go to the bank. If you want bread, go to the bakery. If you want goals, go to the net."
Committment in a guy is very attractive and Laich definitely has that especially when it comes to the Washington Capitals! When asked about his team attitude, he replied "If I asked you about your family, you would talk about them forever because it's something you love," Laich said. "That's the way I feel about this team. This team is my life, and I love playing here and I'm passionate about playing hockey. So it's easy for me to talk about it."

Not unlike his buddy Mike Green, Laich enjoys golf and playing the guitar. He's enjoys baseball and his favorite team is the Toronto Blue Jays

He's also a supporter of Athletes Against Autism.
