Hockey 101 with HftL: Penalties (Cont'd)

A few weeks back I went over minor penalties (boarding and the signal for boarding). This week, I will continue with minor penalties and their signals covering charging and checking from behind.

CHARGING (MINOR PENALTY)
When a player takes more than three skating strides prior to checking an opponent. The ref's official signal for this is pictured to the left (rotates clenched fists around on another in front of his chest).

CHECKING FROM BEHIND (MINOR PENALTY)
When a player checks or hits an opponent whose back is facing that player, often into the boards.Checking or hitting an opponent whose back is facing you, often into the boards. The ref's official signal for this is pictured to the right (his non-whistle arm is placed behind his back with elbow bent, forearm parallel to the ice surface).
